Training the Setter
Training the volleyball setter is predicated upon several basic factors: 1. System the team runs 2. Individual skill of the setter 3. Philosophy of the head coach 4. Amount of time for proper training TRAINING PROGRESSION1. Discuss body position at the net. Location of setter, and body position in regards to the SR and the attacker.2. Discuss footwork.

backsets once again -continues 9. COACH TOSS PLAYER SETS-2 balls and 2 targets, 2 setters -C tosses from the floor (acting as a SR) to the S. Setter penetrates from various serve receive locations -S sets to various locations -Establish goals for the setters. 30 seconds without a mistake, 20 sets in a minute, 10 consecutive passes to the locations without a mistake etc. 10. Work on footwork for out-of-system passes-get to the ball and set through -never turn your back on a pass or a passer -always set off right foot 11. FILL IN THE SPACE-3 setters, 1 ball, basketball key, and 4 cones or mats on the floor for identifying locations -Works on squaring up to the target to set -One person starts with the ball, he sets to one other person and fills the empt space -Second person sets to the other person and fills the empty space -Drill is continuous -Increase difficulty by enlarging the square 12. COACHES TOSS PATTERN-C with ball cart, 1 or 2 setter's, and a target -C toss ball anywhere designated on the court -S must run to the ball and follow setting rules and set high and outside 13. SERVER SERVE RECEIVER SETTER TARGET14. Incorporate jump serving throughout the whole process above in steps #3-1215. SETTER DUMPS-Left-handed -Two handed back and over set -Off the net 2 handed set to middle of the court |
