Preparing to Serve
The
setter starts from the left back corner.
After the serve the setter moves over to the
ten foot line on the right side to cover short dinks and rolls. The middle
blocker and outside hitter will
switch positions. After the transition, three front row hitters back up
and the setter can slide right into position
in the same manner of the other three rotations.
Preparing to Receive
For
defense the setter pushes the middle
blocker up to the net. This removes the middle
blocker from passing. This normally does not matter because middle
blockers are normally the weakest passers on the team. After
the serve the setter slides into the setting
position. Notice that the middle blocker
and hitter are out of position. This
can be fixed by running cross or "X" plays where the middle
approaches at diagonal and the hitter
approaches with a roll to the outside. This play causes a lot of confusion
for the opponent teams.
